Resume

Alejandro Peña Ayala holds a PhD in Computer Sciences a result of his dissertation “A Student Model based on Cognitive Maps” for the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico (IPN). Also he got his M.S. in Artificial Intelligence and his B.S. in Information Technologies at IPN. At B.S, he received the award “Best Students of México, 1981 class”; meanwhile he accomplished his M.S. and PhD with honors.


Dr. Peña is member (level one) of the National Researchers System (SNI) of the National Council of Science and Technology of Mexico (CONACYT). Also, he owns the grant for the Researchers’ Performance Incentive Program (with level six) of the IPN. Moreover, he is member of the International Society for Artificial Intelligence in Education, the Mexican Artificial Intelligence Society, and the Institutional Computing Network of the IPN. In addition, he is reviewer of several international scientific journals, international conferences, and grants for research projects of the CONACYT.


Dr. Peña has been taught at IPN since 1981, and actually he is Researcher and Professor Titular “A” of the IPN for the Doctoral programs of Systems Engineering (at the Postgraduate Studies and Research Section of the Superior College of Engineering in Mechanic and Electrics) and Computer Sciences (at the Center for Computing Research). Also, he was Professor at M.S. at ITESM-CEM during 1989-1994.


Regarding to research projects, he has participated in two as a leader, and one as assistant. Since 2004, he has published 27 scientific works as follows: One chapter for a book edited by Springer; three papers in journal indexed by ISI-JCR; one article in a journal indexed by CONACYT; 19 papers in international conferences, whose proceedings has been published by editorials such as: Elsevier, Springer Verlang (LNCS & LNAI), IEEE, and IOS Press. Moreover, Dr. Peña has spoken the respective conference in the cities located in the five continents, such as: Washington, DC, USA; Melbourne, Australia; Besançon, France; Grindelwald, Switzerland; Bali, Indonesia; Vancouver, Canada; Penang, Malaysia; Beijing, China; Tunisia, Tunes; Wroclaw, Poland; Nicosia, Cyprus; Dong Hoi, Vietnam; and Brighton, UK. Moreover, he published three Technical Reports by the IPN. In addition, at least two citations in papers published in journals indexed by ISI-JCR have received his work.


Simultaneously to his academic development, since 1978 Alejandro Peña has fulfilled a professional carrier as federal government functionary, bank executive and business man. Due to Dr. Peña has worked for the ministries of Economy and Health of the Federal Mexican Government as project leader and technical support manager respectively. Also he was hired as systems manager and consultant by two of the main Mexican banks such as Bancomext and City Bank Banamex. During the 90’s he ran his own company, Neuralware that is oriented to the information technologies market. Nowadays, he is consulter, evaluator of research projects for the CONACYT, and the CEO of the World out Reach Light to the Nations Ministries (WOLNM), which is devoted to preach the Gospel and training disciples worldwide.


Among his research work lines are: Adaptive and Intelligent Web-based Education Systems, User Modeling, Cognitive Maps, Distributed Artificial Intelligent Agents, Ontologies, Intelligent Web Software Engineering, Data Mining, and Business Intelligence.
